The Athlete within You Radio Show is broadcast via the internet on the United Talk Radio Network or UTRN. Just click on either of the links and it will take you there (UTRN will bring you to the rebroadcast download section) . I am really happy doing radio. Its been quite a journey. From complete terror trying to do a 15 minute monologue on my original show to doing a two hour program feeling very much at ease.
The last few weeks I feel like I’ve made huge strides forward in figuring this whole thing out. I’m organized, informative, a good interviewer and comfortable on the air. Some people even find me funny. Something that will surprise 90 percent of all those that know me. I am really excited for how this is transforming me and everything I do. It certainly helps me as a keynote speaker.
One big change on the show is the addition of more or less (I hope permanent) co-host. Her name is Kindra Reid, CSCS. She is a wonderful human being, she is a personal trainer (that’s what the alphabet soup after her name means). She is a Strength and Conditioning Specialist and she teaches at the National Personal Training Institute. Her business is Battle Ready Fitness and that is where everyone can find her (naturally click on the link). I’ve known her only about six months. In the personal training world she is “Commander Kindra”. We have a great rapport which I think comes through over the airways. She has worked with MMA fighters, runners and even Cricketers. She is a law school graduate that worked for the Clinton Administration (it means she is very smart).
We have a great time interviewing guests. My mental approach to her physical one. She also knows a great deal about nutrition, so we get a great deal from our guests. We also talk sports. And this is where we can have some fun. I’m not so polite I won’t get her going about one of the teams she really likes and she will definitely bust me one if I make a verbal error discussing women in sports or for that matter anything else. It is honest radio. This Tuesday she thought I said something sexist about girls doing push-ups with their ponytails. I did say that because I work with a high school girl that was bouncing her ponytail on the ground instead of bending her arms to do the push-ups. That was all true. She busted me for it because plenty of boys and men do them wrong as well. I wasn’t saying it was a female exercise issue, just that is what one of my players did. The point is we are so comfortable we can tease each other. I think it makes for a great show.
In the last two weeks we have had on a NY Sports Attorney by the name of Steve Olenick, a pro golfer Jordan Holley, a pro beach volleyball player Russ Marchewka and author/runner Mark Bravo. Each one brought something special to the show.
What the show does for me is allows me to talk about sport psychology, mental training, mental toughness, imagery, hypnosis, stress and the rest in a way that more people can understand. We do the same on all of the other things that go into helping athletes become the best that they can be. The show is after all about finding The Athlete within You.
OK so that’s enough about the show for a while. Please join Kindra and myself. Give us a call live, give us a hard time, if you dare. But definitely come join the fun.
